Nominees for 2011 “The Business of Sports Awards”

I’m excited to announce the nominees for the 2011 The Business of Sports Awards! Every spring, we will take a look back to reward the best content and contributors from the sports business community over the past year.

Unlike other sports business awards that recognize the people working within specific organizations, the goal for these awards is to recognize those individuals, companies and websites that create and share the best sports business content and provide the most benefit for the rest of the sports industry. Also, in an attempt to spread the recognition a bit, last year’s winner in each category cannot win again this year.

With all that said, the nominees are…

Best Sports Business Blog: Last year’s winner was SportsBiz with Darren Rovell. This year’s nominees are…

Best Sports Business Twitter Account: Last year’s winner was Kathleen Hessert (@kathleenhessert). This year’s nominees are…

Best Sports Business Content – Company: Last year’s winner was Sports Business Journal. This year’s nominees are…

  • Activ8Social (Website, blog and Twitter accounts)
  • Coyle Media (Sports Marketing 2.0, Sports Fan Graph, @sports20, Digital Fan Marketing Summits)
  • CNBC (Darren Rovell’s blog, Twitter and video content)
  • Forbes (SportsMoney website and blog)
  • IEG (Sponsorship.com blog and individual Twitter contributors)
  • GMR Marketing (Industry blog and multiple Twitter accounts)

Best Sports Business Up and Comer: Last year’s winner was Peter Amador. This year’s nominees are…

Best Alternative Sports Business Content: Last year’s winner was Sports Business Radio. This year’s nominees are…

Best International Sports Business Contributor (New Category):

Best Sports Business Email Newsletter (New Category):

Best Sports Business Book (New Category):

People’s Choice – Sports Business Social Media Contributor of the Year:

The voting for the People’s Choice award (on the top right of the page) will run through May 15. All of the winners will be announced the following week.

Please Note: The only award that you can currently vote on is the People’s Choice award. However, I encourage you all to leave comments about who you think should win in the other categories. These comments will be considered when deciding on the winners. Thanks!

You are missing a slew of more-than qualified individuals, including most all of those from Sports Business Journal and Sports Business Daily. These are the outlets most sought by teams and other sports-related organizations. They know their business!

Gail – I completely agree – it is so hard to attempt to narrow any list down to a few names. The only reasons why there aren’t more SBJ/SBD folks on the list because the entire Sports Business Journal organization won last year for “Best Sports Business Content – Company” (last year’s winners are excluded for this year), and almost each list could be just SBJ staff, so I wanted to spread the recognition.

I hope none of them are offended – I am a HUGE fan of their content, from the magazine to the Daily (nominated!) to all of their Twitter accounts. They are all incredible resources!
